Several Hurt as Rough Air Hits Delta Flight into Sydney
A number of individuals sustained injuries after a Delta Airlines flight originating in Los Angeles to Sydney was hit by rough air Friday morning.
Delta Flight 41 "went through a short bout of rough air" as it touched down at the Sydney airport, an airline spokesperson told. Four flight attendants were injured.
The New South Wales Ambulance Service said they treated five patients, and transported a trio to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries that comprised pain in the back and head pain. The injured spanned from their 30s to 70s.
This marks the most recent case of aircraft experiencing turbulence, with experts pointing out that shifting climate patterns is a major factor.
The aircraft was carrying 245 people and a crew of 15 on the Airbus A350, the official added, adding that the plane arrived "safely" at the airport at 06:48 local time on Friday.
Emergency responders indicated they were alerted just only 180 seconds ahead of the plane landed, and response teams were waiting on the tarmac.
